This lithe being, a creature simultaneously intelligent and absurd in the extreme, is Sugar, the Hungarian Viszla. I have known her for almost four years, but only realised this week that that knowledge goes right out to my fingertips - what a joyous discovery!

Aren't they the craziest beings? I had no idea you had one, too. Sugar makes us laugh so frequently. She looks one in the eye with such intensity it's as though she's attempting ESP. But my favourite thing is when she hugs Amory. She wraps one paw behind his calf and presses her forehead against his shin. I haven't yet been so honoured. x H
